I Run IT for Contractors. That's All I Do.

I started Don's Tech Rescue because I kept watching construction firms handle IT built for an office, then get blamed when it didn't hold up in a trailer.

My Story

Where I Learned This

I spent three years at a managed services provider handling break-fix, Microsoft 365 migrations, cloud services, physical security systems, and network management. Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti, Brivo access control. Whatever came through the door that week.

After that I moved to internal IT at a medtech manufacturer as an lead MIT Specialist. That was an FDA-regulated environment, which means every change got documented, every system got validated, and nothing shipped on a verbal okay. It taught me how to run technology in a place where being sloppy has consequences.

Those two jobs taught me opposite lessons and I needed both. The MSP showed me how much of this industry runs on people making broken systems work. The manufacturer showed me what it looks like when someone builds it right the first time.

Who I work with

Why Contractors

Most IT companies in this region serve offices. They're good at desks, printers, and email. Then a contractor calls and the conversation stops making sense, because half the business isn't at a desk.

Your work happens in a trailer with a cellular connection, on a tablet in the cab of a truck, on equipment in a yard that nobody thought to put on a network. When that side breaks, a crew stands around and you pay for it. An idle crew waiting on a drawing that won't load isn't an IT issue, it's a bleeding budget.

That gap is the whole reason this business exists..

Why ME

How I work

From first call to fully managed.

One accountable point of contact.

Whoever scopes your setup is whoever works on it, and whoever answers when it breaks already knows what they're looking at. Nothing gets handed to a queue.

I sit down before I recommend anything.

I want to see how you actually operate first. Recommending hardware before I understand your week is how you end up paying for tools nobody touches.

Ahead of it, not behind it.

Monitoring, patching, and tested backups so problems surface before they become an outage. You shouldn't find out your backup failed on the day you need it.

Documented.

Your systems, licenses, and configurations written down and kept current. If you ever replace me, you get the documentation. That's how it should work.

Yes, It's Just Me Right Now

I'd rather tell you than have you wonder. Don's Tech Rescue is one person, and I'm building it deliberately instead of hiring fast and hoping the quality holds.

Here's what that actually gets you. You're never explaining your setup to a stranger. Nothing gets lost between a salesperson and a technician, because they're the same guy. And I subcontract specialty work like structured cabling to people who do it every day rather than pretending I'm an expert at everything.

Here's what it means practically. I'm honest about capacity. If you need a team of six on site tomorrow morning, that isn't me, and I'll tell you that on the first call instead of the third month.
